Reduce Your Risk of Breast Cancer and Try #OneNewThing

By Tiffany Auvinen

Living well can prevent one third of breast cancers.

Do you know someone who has had breast cancer? Two in five people get cancer in their life-time, and I don’t want to be one of them. I am embracing life and trying new activities as much as possible. I eat at least five servings of vegetables and fruit each day. I exercise five times a week, and I love my family and friends more than anything else in the world. So that’s why I embrace the time I have on earth and travel, exercise, and laugh as much as possible.

The new things I’m experiencing this year involve a lot of exercise with my family.

I take my baby to Pilates with me, and I enjoy Insanity fitness videos with my older daughter. In fact, I even purchased skates, so I hit the ice with my daughter and also take an adult figure skating class on my own. Not only do I exercise with my daughters, but I also take boxer fit classes from Jennifer Porayko, a fitness contributor at DoctorsWivesLiving.com, and I get super fit with the help of a personal trainer. How’s that for a mommy who has a newborn baby? I’m loving life!

Have you seen the modeling video from Shaw TV which was posted on the Doctors’ Wives Living Facebook page? I even modeled alongside a ‘real’ model on television just five months post baby.

I’m living with the motto: Say YES to life and lots of new experiences.

When I’m not working on this online magazine, I’m looking for my next travel adventure. One new thing I am trying is traveling with my two young children to Disneyland this fall, and I cannot contain my excitement.  Skipping with my kids to the different rides and being happy the entire time is my goal for the trip.
My inspiration? My close family member has just been diagnosed with cancer after he retired from working for 40 years. He started to live a happier, healthier life and lost 40 pounds by training in track and field and winning an award at an athletics competition. Now he feels more confident he can beat cancer. I hope he’s right. Let’s make cancer history!

Whether they are big or small, gradual lifestyle changes can benefit you. Get out of your comfort zone and try new things, to help reduce your risk of breast cancer. Share your #OneNewThing.
